Weekly Stash Challenge week 17

As restrictions continue to be eased, I hope everyone is staying safe.  My Christmas card making is going well - for once, I won't have a mad panic in November!

Here is the sketch and tic tac toe for this week - four months since we first started, who knew this would last so long!  I had hoped that we could be starting classes again by now, but it wasn't to be.  Maybe in September, some socially distanced classes can run?  We will see.

And here is my card.  I used one pad and some scraps of paper from another, plus a hunkydory topper deck pack to make my card this time.  My tic tac toe line was centre horizontal - gems, glitter, diecut.

I started with a 7 x 5 card base, and onto that I layered some decorative paper from a pad in my stash.  Using the same pad, I cut out a decorative and plain circle for the secondary background.  My topper was a hunkydory topper deck card, mounted onto some paper from the pad, and some rainbow mirri card.

The sentiment also came from the paper pad - it was a scrap left over from another project (the big sheet was filled with the wording).

I fussy cut some poinsettia flowers from a scrap of a sheet from a Chloe box set to decorate and in the centre I put some glitter glue to hold my pearls.  Lastly, I went over the snowy areas with glitter glue, and stuck a small bow made from gold and white bakers twine onto the sentiment.

My christmas cards are coming along nicely - I hope your stash of completed cards is growing, too!

Until next week, then.  Stay safe, everyone!

Weekly Stash Challenge - week 16

I honestly never thought we would still be going strong - only 10 more weeks and we will have been doing this for 6 months! Hey ho.  As long as people are still enjoying themselves I will continue!

Here is the sketch for this week.

and as an added bonus, a tic tac toe if you need further inspiration

This is my card - back to a 5 x 7 base!

Everything for this card (apart from the base) came from a Chloe box kit.  I used one of the backing papers as a background, then cut another base from a complementary colour and cut that into three different size strips.  I stuck these onto the top of the base mat, leaving a small gap in between them.

Onto this second mat, I added the topper circle.  At this point, I realised I had forgotten to put a contrasting mat underneath the bottom mats, and they were blending a bit.  So I added a line around them using a sparkly marker pen.  Not perfect, but you go with what you've got, right?

Then I cut out some extra flowers to layer onto the topper, and covered them with some stickles glue to make them glitter.  In the centre of the flowers, I added some gold gems.

Lastly, I added the sentiment.  And this time, I DID remember to layer it!  FYI, my card fills the top row of the tic tac toe - Gems, Blue, Silver.

Have a good week everyone, and as restrictions continue to ease, stay safe!

As a side note - if anyone is also a sewist, and is planning to sew some masks for wearing in shops etc, I can recommend this pattern from Jordan fabrics, as it is roomy and very easy to wear and not difficult to make.  It doesn't have a pocket for a filter, but these masks won't be medical grade anyway, so I am thinking comfy is best!  She uses straps - but you can add elastic if you prefer that, really easily.   Nose wires can be obtained from Ebay - I got 20 of them for £3.99, free delivery.

Weekly Stash Challenge Week 15

Well, things are gradually getting back to a sort of normal - if the increase in traffic on the roads is anything to go by, anyway!  Some more shops/activities are being allowed to open (I am counting down the hours to my haircut on Wednesday...!) but social distancing still has to be strictly observed with lots of precautions taken, and for this reason, it isn't likely Busy Bees can re open just yet.  But we will!!!!  And until then, here is your challenge for this week.

Your sketch for this week:

Your extra challenge for this week is just to enjoy yourself - pick a subject that "brings you joy" (TM Marie Kondo), choose a colour that makes you smile,  and have fun rummaging through your stash.

Me?  I am still plodding through my Christmas card makes, because now I am on a roll and it will be so much less stressful in November to have lots already done!

My base card was a 6 x 6 scalloped card, and onto this I layered some nordic paper from the stash bag.  It came as part of a kit - so there was a matching topper and sentiment to go with it.  Result!  I just added some rainbow mirri as a mat to the topper.  This card came together very easily but I really like it.

Weekly Stash Challenge Week 14

Hello everyone, week 14 is here!  Time is flying by - and the way we are going, we will have all our Christmas cards done in record time...

Here is the sketch for this week:

For this week, I thought the extra challenge - should you choose to accept it - could be to make your card in one colour, monochrome.

For my card, I chose classic black and white.

This week, everything came from my die cut stash box.  I used a 6 x 6 scalloped card base, and onto that I overlaid a snowflake die cut background in white.  I stuck a deer and tree die cut in black onto the  top of this background, and added a thin strip of ribbon from my stash underneath it, topped with a bow made from the same type chiffon ribbon, but a thicker width.

I stamped my sentiment into the bottom right hand corner of the card, and stuck a glittered snowflake on a foam pad in the top right corner.  Finally, as it looked a bit flat, I added a gem in the centre of each snowflake on the background to give it some bling.

So, challenge set.  Of course, you can completely disregard that part if you like, and just make something you like, which is the whole point!

Happy Crafting, and stay safe as lockdown restrictions continue to ease....
