Summer school preview... 31st July 2010 part 2

The second part of the programme for the papercraft summer school are two cards which offer the opportunity to try out the cuttlebug, and also some stamping/colouring with foam pads to make a decorative background, topped with "innie" or "outie" decoupage.

Card 1 utilises the Bug, and a stamped image, coloured and cut out in an oval shape using nestabilities.

Card 2 has a choice of backgrounds, or topper. Both "innie" and "outie" images will be available. The background will either be stamped butterflies in complementary colours, or a sponged random effect, topped with a spritz of mica spray to add necessary "bling".

June 2010

There were two cards on the menu today, courtesy of Jackie...

The first was a bow fronted card, with a stamped and coloured image inside. Oval nestabilities were used to create the aperture, with a contrast colour card used behind the white base card. The image was coloured using promarkers, and there was a choice of five different images - small girl having a picnic, small girl watering flowers, small girl chasing butterflies, small boy collecting apples or a small boy fishing.


The second card was a black and white image, layered onto black and white card and using a black card base. The black layer card was embossed using a cuttlebug folder, to provide some interest.

Summer school preview... 31st July 2010

There will be four projects as part of the card making summer school. Two are shown here - but keep an eye out for the final two, which will be posted shortly.

The first two projects are courtesy of Brenda. The first is an original photograph album, made in the form of a box, and decorated with a butterfly embellishment.

The second project is a card with a penny slider, topped with an embellishment made from paper punches.

May 2010

Today we had a choice of projects, courtesy of Brenda.

The first project was an exploding box with a difference - the vellum inserts which kept the box from opening completely, making it more secure.


The second project was two cards, two colour ways but utilising the same design of a clever rosette.

Summer school advance notice...

We are planning another Summer school in July this year. The hall we use in Lowshoe Lane is big enough to accommodate both the beaders and the cardcrafters, so both events will be combined on 31st July 2010. Look out for more information to follow...!

April 2010

This month the projects for our craft class were provided by Claire.

The first card was made using a mixture of textures and embellishments. A delicate scalloped edge on the outside of the card was mirrored by the use of fancy edge scissors on the matting and layering card.


The second card showed the versatility of paper punches. The use of a contrast along the side of the card to highlight the delicate border punch made an elegant card which anyone would be pleased to receive. A number of flowers were punched out in the same colour paper as that used for the contrast strip.


And finally, we made a sturdy but attractive gift box, just right for that special occasion. A thick card was used for the box and it was decorated with ribbon and a tag with embellishments.

March 2010

Among the projects we made this month was a lovely mountain and valley card, courtesy of Laura.
This card featured a clever dress embellishment, made using templates and colour toned paper. Some peeloff edging and corners added that extra "bling".

A top tip...

Often, when I am matting and layering, I want that tiny strip around the edge to pick out a key colour from the image, and I am frustrated to find that I don't have the right colour backing paper.

Then it occurred to me that what I do have is a huge range of felt tipped markers in all the colours I could want. So what I do now is cut a piece of ordinary copy paper to the size I want, and run the appropriate colour marker along each edge of the paper so that about 5mm is covered. I then matt and layer as normal. Problem sorted! And a top tip...

February 2010

There are two cards being done in February, courtesy of Jackie. Both are A4 folded to A5 and feature Joanna Sheen images.

The first, is a pyramage with a daffodil topper and a chiffon ribbon bow set at a jaunty angle. The background paper and toppers are from the Joanna Sheen cd, Floral Fantasy.











The second is another Joanna Sheen image, this time of a cheeky little dog, but set in a frame. All images and backing paper come from the Joanna Sheen cd The Cardmakers Year.


Both cards can be made using basic skills and equipment.
