Candle Storage Holder

For this project, I made a candle storage holder from a "shaped crisp tin" (aka pringles, or the generic equivalent!)

For information, the authentic pringles tins are better for longer candles because the Aldi ones (which I used) were about an inch and a half shorter.  However, don't discard them, because they are perfect for storing the small scented tealights!

What will you need?

I used some papermania capsule collection papers (3 patterns) trimmed to around 10" x 5" in black, some satin and organza ribbon, some black and white paper roses, some small formed leaves and lace offcuts and some pearls on a string from my stash,  and a creative expressions blingy gem for the centre of the bow.

So how was it done?

  1.  Wrap the first patterned paper around the bottom half of the tin and glue in place.
  2. Then wrap the second patterned paper around the top half of the tin, meeting the top line  of the bottom paper, again, gluing in place.
  3. Wrap the third piece of patterned paper which has been trimmed so it leaves a gap in the centre around the top of the tin, but only glue the bottom and around the top from an inch in from the centre edges.
  4. Curl back the edges as shown and glue in place. (Double sided paper is nice for this one)
  5. Add the lace around the top and bottom of the tin, nudging it up against the metal rims.
  6. Add lace and ribbon around the centre, covering the paper joins.
  7. Add the pearl trim at this point to the exposed centre panel.  (Don't go right up to the top, as it will stop the lid going on).
  8. Cut some ribbon strips and stick to the centre front, over where the ribbon around the middle of the tin is joined.
  9. Glue ribbon bow over the top of the strips.
  10. Glue flowers and leaves along the side of the rolled edges - I used a hot glue gun for this part as it guaranteed instant stick!
  11. Squirt some silicon or pinflair glue gel into the opening at the top of the rolled back sides and push in ornate pins/gems.
  12. Decorate lid by cutting out two 3 inch diameter circles from the patterned paper of your choice, and glue one to the top of the lid and one on the inside.
  13. Finally, glue lace/trimming around the side of the lid.  Glossy accents worked well with this!
  14. I filled my tin with a combination of small candles and tealights - and because they were scented, it hid the smell of cheese and chives - which remained despite the tin being washed out!!
I hope you enjoyed finding out how my tin was made

September - Shoe card

If you want to take part and haven't given your name to Ann already, please let her know as soon as possible.  Brenda needs to know numbers so she can prepare the kits for the class.

Summer Workshop - 10th August

For the summer workshop we will be having two sessions - morning and afternoon - one led by Brenda and one by Jackie.  The group will be split so that one half will work with Brenda in the morning and Jackie in the afternoon, and vice versa.

If anyone wants to come and has NOT already put their name down, they should contact Ann, or email us by 30th July 2013.  Anyone asking to take part after this date will not be able to undertake Brenda's project, as there will not be sufficient time to prepare the kit, but could still do Jackie's.

This is an easel card, with a complementary small gift box.

Jackie's project

This will be an opportunity to try out stamping, distress inks and blending brushes, and we will be making a card with a pop out inset and the cover of a memory book/photo album.

May sneaky peek...

In May we will be doing three cards, courtesy of Jackie.

The first card is a square card and will involve some stamping using a Kanban stamp set and some simple colouring using coloured pencils, and will be suitable for the men in our lives! (Card design courtesy of Michelle at In2Crafting)

The second card will be a square card that can be used for a large number of occasions.  It will feature images from the cupcake crafting cd - A touch of Elegance.

The third card will have a different fold, but will fit into a 5" x 7" envelope.  It features images from the Debbi Moore Shabby Chic - Victorian Botanical cd

April class - 2 cards by Brenda

Brenda will be taking the class in April, and she will be bringing us two lovely cards, both keeping in mind the postage costs, so will be suitable for going inside an envelope!

The first being a stylish shoe with embossed background, ideal for the ladies.
The second is a simple but elegant white on white birthday card.

March Class cancelled due to weather

Unfortunately, the bad weather today has meant that Debbie is unable to get to us safely and therefore the class has been cancelled.

The cards that were to be done today will now be done in April.

Apologies for the inconvenience... and disappointment.

January Class - bad weather

Hi everyone, just to let you know that Ann will be taking the decision on whether the class will go ahead in the event of bad weather on Thursday this week.

We very much hope to do so - the hall is nice and warm and I am sure everyone is raring to go and make the lovely cards that Brenda has prepared.  But we don't want to risk anyone slipping and hurting themselves.

Ann will let me know what is happening on Thursday, and I will post it here.

Hopefully, we will see you then!

February... a sneaky peek!

February's class will be led by Jackie and we will be making 2 6"x6" square cards.

The first is a white on white gatefold card and will offer the chance to have a go at embossing and using embossing folders and the cuttlebug.

The second is a plain and simple card, made using printed toppers.

You will need to bring basic equipment (glue, double sided tape, scissors) and a fine tip felt tip pen in green.  All other materials will be provided.
